Description
The Gamblers, a crime novel by Charles Klein ( 1867 – 1915 ), was published in 1910. The play at Maxine Elliott’s Theatre ran from October 31, 1910 to April 11, 1911. It was described by The New York Times: "In The Gamblers, which was produced at Maxine Elliott’s Theatre last night, Charles Klein has done what many a playwright, trying to do, has failed in. He has written a play which plunges rapidly on from one situation to another, with practically no relief, no exposition except what is conveyed by the action itself, and almost before an inevitably high-strung audience realizes it the curtain is down on the last act, and the final curtain is totally unexpected when it does come."
