Description
Lot of 2: (1) Letter from Harry Truman post war to a sailor who served on the ship during WW II; (2) A book, presumably published by the US Navy – staff of the book are all seamen / officers – that commenorates the sailor’s service with photos of engagements during the Pacific war, life onboard the ship, and the sailors themselves. "When a warship travels over 190,775 miles during any war and fires nearly 13 million pounds of projectiles, it is worth a story. This is the story of such a ship – your ship." Eight engagements and 13 bombardments. The USS Idaho and its crew appear to have participated in most of the Pacific theatre battles, including Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Condition: (1) Book, excellent. (2) The envelop a sailor mailed it to – his sister, mother, or wife – is age toned, damaged and deteriorating.
